PATELLA - Haemophilia

Description
A small patella from a child, showing gross distortion of the articular surface, with brown discolouration of the central area.
History
This child was diagnosed as suffering from haemophilia, Type A, as an infant and, to the age of 13 when the patella was removed, had had 31 admissions to hospital with various haemorrhagic episodes. His knees had been involved on a number of occasions with resulting distorting and disorganisation, which also involved the patella. In the course of reconstructive surgery, the patella was removed.
